A popular dish made of tofu and Sichuan spices, usually with pork but now healthier with tuna.

Ma Po Tofu with Tuna


2 tablespoons cooking oil

2 tablespoons chopped shallots

2 teaspoons chopped garlic

1 teaspoon minced ginger

1 tablespoon chili bean paste

1 tablespoon mashed salted black beans

2-180 grams Century Tuna Flakes Hot & Spicy, drained

3/4 cup chicken stock or broth

1 tablespoon rice wine

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

1 tablespoon hoisin sauce

1 tablespoon sugar

1 tablespoon Cream Cornstarch

2 cups soft tofu cubes

2 tablespoons chopped spring onions


Heat cooking oil in a Tefal sauté pan. Sauté shallots, garlic and ginger.   Add chili bean paste, black beans and tuna.

Meanwhile, mix together stock, rice wine, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sugar and cornstarch. Pour into sautéed tuna.

When sauce thickens, stir in tofu. Allow to simmer for 1 minute. Remove from heat and serve on a plate topped with spring onions.

Makes 5 to 6 servings.
