Traditional Filipino dish with a twist. Hearty tuna soup with sayote and ginger.

Century Tuna Tinola


2 – 184 grams Century Tuna Solid in Vegetable Oil, drained and oil reserved
½ cup sliced onions
2 tablespoons ginger, sliced into strips
½ cup cubed tomatoes
4 cups rice washing
1 cup cubed sayote
2 teaspoons salt
½ teaspoon cracked peppercorns
1 bunch pechay leaves, washed, roots trimmed


In a large saucepan, heat oil from tuna. Sauté onions, ginger and tomatoes. Pour in rice washing and add sayote. Bring to a boil and cook until sayote is tender. Season with salt and pepper. Add tuna and pechay leaves. Cover pan, letting it boil for about 1 minute before removing from heat. Serve hot.
